How to Purge Kitchen Appliances to Make Space for the Ones You Use
In many of my client’s homes, I come across their KitchenAid mixer that isn’t easily accessible. Whether you’re a regular baker or only use your mixer during the holidays, it needs a home. This is the case for all your (needed) kitchen appliances.
I feel it’s important to have a special, accessible space for infrequently used items. This encourages you to use them! Think about it, if you’re in the mood to bake on occasion, you may skip doing so if you can’t access or find your baking supplies. Then your streak of store-bought cookies continues. The same goes for any appliance. If you can’t prioritize making room for it, it’s time to let it go. This is not to say you should make room for appliances you truly don’t need. In order to figure out what you should make room for and what to let go of, read our tips below.
Take out ALL your appliances.
Yes, that means get in your basement, garage, linen closet, under your bed and line up all those fun appliances you’ve accumulated throughout the years. I’m talking about non-pluggable appliances like french presses, too.
Clear the table!
Line them all up. Extra points if you group similar ones together. Now, let’s assess:
-
Are there any appliances that you have duplicates of?
-
Are there any you haven’t used in the last year? (If you used them at least once a year before the pandemic, just count that).
-
Is it worth the space it is taking up in your home?
Prioritize which 3-6 appliances you use the most. Not ready to donate or give away those you aren’t using just yet? Put them in a box and store them somewhere other than your kitchen. Put a reminder in your calendar six months from now to remind you to give away the appliances you haven’t used since. This will be real proof to yourself that they aren’t worth holding onto. It’s difficult to let go of valuable items sometimes, but it’s for the better. If you aren’t someone who makes homemade paninis, that panini maker is better off with someone who does. I promise you won’t regret it!
For those of you who are now able to use that KitchenAid, these are my favorite chocolate chip cookies. They’re flat, chewy, and the salt on top makes it extra special!
Great content! Keep up the good work!
